Hello everyone.... I just wanted to introduce myself as I'm a new guy on the block... It's been a long standing dream of mine to build guitars and as of September 17th, I will be starting Tony Karol's guitar building course. (Ver, very excited.) Both Tony and Brian, (Beachtonewood,) recommended this site and said that you are all a great bunch of guys with a lot of great ideas and good advise! I'm sure you'll be seeing quite a bit of me! Cheers, Richard. |

Again Welcome, Don't believe a word any of them says, It's only overseas members that receive the sets of Ziricote, as we have such a hard job getting it over here ![]() Don't be afraid to ask any questions, collectively here you've got thousands of years of experience to call on. And don't be afraid to ask what may seem a simple question, they are often the ones that really get the thread running. A warning though, if you ask a question and get ten people replying you'll end up with a least a dozen different opinions. Also, and I don't know if Lance explained this to you, but you have to send him your first finished guitar so he can put it in the OLF museum. Colin |

Thanks for the warm welcome. Luckily I just bought a nice set of Ziricote from Brian, so as soon as it arrives I will chop it up in to little peices and send you each a piece. As well I just picked up a Keg from Creemore, so I will pour you each a glass, (and then drink it for you..... probably won;t last if I send it out.) Boy..... being a Luthier is more expensive than I originally anticipated!! ![]() |

Welcome, Richard! You have entered the lair of a bunch of maniacal sawdust makers. I am really ashamed that several here tried to dupe you into sending them a Ziricote set. It is absolutely preposterous! I think these guys must be high from sniffing Cocobolo dust! Anyone who is anyone would know that you don't demand the new guy send a "master grade ziricote back and side set to the first person who responds to your initial post." The actual custom is to find out where the new guy is from, and shake him or her down for a master grade set from their native soil. As well, the person requesting the set must do so in the native tongue of the new guy. (Lucky for me, I speak fluent Canadian.) So here goes, "Richard, may I please have a master grade set of fiddleback Canadian Maple, eh?" Dennis |

Greetings Richard from another fellow Canadian and Torontonian. Listen since I've been around here a little longer drop the the tonewood and beer off at my place and I'll take care of shipping the goods to the gang here!!! You'll really enjoy Tony Karol's class. He's got a great shop and a real knack for teaching and taking the fear out of building your first. He's also a great builder -- my daughter has a great Parlor he built for her. Funny story about Tony is that he and I are about the same age, both grew up in the same northern Ontario mining town, played high school basketball against each other, know a bunch of the same people and finally met each other on another guitar builders forum. Just to warn you -- you are about to develop a very healthy addiction with pretty darn good company on the OLF. |

Hey Richard, Just thought I should add a welcome also from out west! There is a ton of great information planted in the heads of all of these guys and gals and you might find just darn good company too. As for money, well you can save a lot here but there is often deals just too good to give up on woods that just aren't available anyway else, but I guess you already know about that from Brian. Welcome abourd! Shane |
